WomenPowerConnect (WPC) in cooperation with Afghanistan based organization called Equality for Peace and Democracy (EPD) organised a Training of Trainers programme for representatives of the Government of Afghanistan. As part of the delegation there were also representatives of the various civil societies from Afghanistan. This Training of Trainers (ToT) was held from 25th to 28th October, 2014 in New Delhi. The main purpose of the training programme was to strengthen the knowledge and build on the gender perspective of the officials of Afghanistan for better policy/programme formulation, its smooth implementation and critical review in the context of Budgeting in Afghanistan. WPC actively shared India’s best practices of gender budgeting in order to enable the delegates to apply this knowledge to their ongoing work in Afghanistan.
The 4-day ToT was organized for 11 Afghan delegates from government and civil society with the aim of developing the understanding of GRB among the participants in order to incorporate GRB into their ministry’s policies and programs. The second aim was to train the officials to carry out training programs for other government officials at 6 pilot ministries: the Ministry of Education (MoE), Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL), Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD), the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled (MoLSAMD), Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).
