Care India, in partnership with WomenPowerConnect celebrate International Women’s Day on 20th March, 2015 to commemorate the end of a successful campaign ‘She Means Business’ conducted by Care India where they managed to engage with over a 100 companies and get 30 corporates on board as signatories. The celebration under the banner “Make It Happen: Respect and Dignity for All to Foster a Happy Workplace” with a focus on sensitization on the issue of Sexual Harassment at the Workplace was conducted at DLF Cyber Hub, Gurgaon. A one-day cultural event in Cyber Hub was held to raise awareness on- and sensitize the corporate world to the pressing issues of gender equality and women’s empowerment at the workplace. “Make It Happen” organized by Care India in association with WomenPowerConnect, brought together a theatre performance, magic show and live music.
Also involved was the Centre for Health and Social Justice- a non-profit voluntary organization working to promote gender equality and women’s health within a human rights framework – which helped organize an interactive game of snakes and ladders. Snakes and Ladders game is a version of the age old game but a life sized one where the participants can walk and interact with the game while understanding issues of gender, violence, health, sexuality, etc. The game is a fun way by which the message is understood collectively and debated with friends and co participants. “Make It Happen” saw performances by Maya Krishna Rao, a distinguished theatre artiste, is an actor, director, writer, educator and activist recognized as an original, innovative, and vastly talented creator of theatre today. Ishamuddin khan (a magician known for the Great Indian Rope Trick) widely recognized as the champion of Indian traditional magic and street performances. He uses his art to raise awareness on important issues which are linked to gender equality. Dhruv Sangari also known as Bilal Chishty is lead vocalist and member of groups like Rooh, Da-Saz and Humble Mystic. The event was an initiative to raise awareness about women’s empowerment, equality and respect at the workplace, specifically in the context of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redress) Act of 2013.
