WomenPowerConnect (WPC), with the support of National Commission for Women (NCW), initiated a Project to create a conducive environment for ensuring effective implementation of women friendly laws through advocacy and civil society participation. The main objective was to organize regional meetings with the state networks which would be attended by representatives of State Women’s Commission, Government officials, experts and civil society representatives. These meetings were deliberate upon the strengths and weaknesses of the existing laws and advocate for proper implementation of the women friendly Laws with focus on PC&PNDT, PCM, Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and PWDVA. Meetings would evolve a policy on looking at gender based violence as a health issue.
WPC with NCW conducted Five Regional Workshops first in Udaipur, Rajasthan on March 31st next in Bhubaneswar on 31st October 2011, then in Chennai on 25th January 2012 and forth in Guwahati on 14th February 2012 and finally fifth in Chandigarh on 9th April 2012 saw great success through the fruitful outcomes and interactions that resulted. The project ended with a National Consultation in Delhi on 12th July 2012. The objective of these programs were to have comprehensive understanding on the issues related to women friendly laws and to understand different issues in this context prevalent in different regional states and to consolidate advocacy efforts for effective implementation of these laws.
