Protest against attack on women in Public Places

As a national level advocacy body on women’s rights , WPC with a strong membership base in Assam as well, protests the brutal attack on MLA Rumi Nath of Borkhola constituency which took place in Karimganj and has shocked the entire country. In this connection, formal protest letters jointly signed by the  President of WPC, Dr. Ranjana Kumari and WPC  Convener in Assam , Ms.Nandita Kanwar , were handed over to the Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, Sri Pranab Gogoi, the Chief Minister of Assam, Sri Tarun Gogoi and the Chairperson of the Assam State Commission for Women, Smt. Meera Barooah. The Speaker, Sri Pranab Gogoi, graciously accepted the letter handed over to him by the Convener and several members of the WPC Assam State Chapter. He said that he had already instructed the govt. to deal with the case strictly and in accordance with law. Some arrests have already been made in this connection and more would be made, he hoped. He said the Chief Minister had also issued orders to deal with this case urgently since such barbaric and brutal behaviour cannot be condoned.
